What is Self Healing Failover

VPSBlocks Self-Healing Failover technology is designed to eliminate one of the biggest risks in hosting infrastructure… single points of failure. Traditional VPS or dedicated server environments rely heavily on the physical machine they run on. If that hardware fails, everything running on it goes down with it. Recovery in those environments can take hours, sometimes longer, depending on how quickly systems can be rebuilt or data restored. VPSBlocks removes this risk by operating on a clustered infrastructure where your virtual machine is no longer tied to a single physical node.

Self Healing Failover Diagram

Above is a diagram outlining exactly how the Self Healing Failover technology works and how the VPSBlocks environment is setup to achieve the Self Healing capability.

At the core of this system is Hyper V clustering combined with high performance shared NVMe storage. Instead of storing your VPS data on local disks inside one server, all virtual machines run from a centralised storage array that is accessible by multiple nodes in the cluster. This means every node can access and run your VPS at any time. If a physical node experiences a failure, whether due to hardware fault, power issue, or an unexpected crash, the system detects the outage and automatically initiates a failover process.

When a failure occurs, your VPS is not rebuilt or restored from backup. It is restarted on another available node in the cluster using the same data stored on the shared NVMe array. The system automatically handles networking, including IP reassignment, and brings the virtual machine back online in the same state it was in at the moment of failure. This entire process is automated and requires no manual intervention, which significantly reduces downtime and avoids the delays seen in traditional recovery methods.

This architecture also allows for live migrations. VPSBlocks can move running virtual machines between nodes without shutting them down, meaning maintenance, upgrades, or hardware replacements can be performed without impacting your services. For businesses running critical workloads, this removes the need for scheduled downtime and ensures services remain available even during infrastructure changes.

The use of full NVMe storage is critical to how this works. High speed, low latency storage ensures virtual machines can be accessed instantly by any node without performance loss. It removes the dependency on local disks, which is where most traditional failover limitations exist. In older environments, recovering from failure often required physically moving drives or restoring large volumes of data, both of which take time and introduce risk. With VPSBlocks, your data is already centralised and accessible, allowing for immediate recovery at the infrastructure level.

It is important to understand that Self-Healing Failover is not a backup solution. This technology is designed to maintain service availability in the event of hardware failure, not to protect against data loss, corruption, or user error. Backups remain a separate and essential part of any hosting strategy. At this time, VPSBlocks does not offer automated data replication across independent storage systems within this platform, so dedicated backup solutions should always be implemented to ensure your data is protected.

For customers, the benefit is clear… improved uptime, reduced risk, and a hosting platform that actively works to keep your services online. Whether you are running websites, applications, or business systems, Self-Healing Failover ensures that hardware failures do not result in extended outages. It is a key part of delivering a reliable, high availability environment backed by infrastructure designed to recover automatically and perform consistently under real world conditions.
