What are Kubernetes?

Developed by Google, Kubernetes (sometimes known as K8s) is an open-source software platform that has become the de-facto standard for running and managing applications in docker containers.

It automatically handles the provisioning, deployment, scaling, networking and load balancing of containers, making it simple for you to manage them.

Benefits of Kubernetes

Kubernetes is a very popular management tool for docker containers because of its ability to:

Kubernetesicon1

automate many important processes of application deployment and management

Kubernetesicon2

react to increased workloads/demands by scaling applications quickly

Kubernetesicon4

run on a variety of infrastructure such as physical, cloud and hybrid servers

Kubernetesicon5

automatically repair faults and replace faulty containers

Kubernetesicon3

minimise resource usage and improve cost efficiency

How does Kubernetes work?

Kubernetes is the General in control of your army of docker containers.

  • Once you have created your application in a set of docker container, you group and deploy them as pods using Kubernetes. Kubernetes then works out where on your system to place those containers to use the least amount computing resources to maximum advantage.
  • Kubernetes will monitor the allocation of computer resources to make sure your pods have the necessary CPU and memory to run efficiently and that demand loads are balanced. It will automatically repair and restart containers should they have problems and can scale the number of pods up or down based on the application’s needs and the number of customers accessing the software.
  • Kubernetes provides the network infrastructure that allows each of the pods to communicate with each other and with external services.

Environment Flexibility

Cloudlets provides the flexibility to build environments that suit a wide range of application needs. Whether you’re running a single Docker container with a database or a complex, load-balanced cluster, the platform supports a fully customisable setup.

  • Load balancing with NGINX, Apache Balancer, HAProxy or Varnish
  • Caching using Memcached or Redis
  • SQL database options such as MariaDB, MySQL Community Edition, Percona or PostgreSQL
  • Flat file and NoSQL database support including MongoDB, Couchbase Community Edition or Redis
  • Full Docker support allowing you to deploy any containerised application from Docker Hub
  • All containers within an environment are assigned internal IP addresses, and internal network traffic between them is free of charge. This makes Cloudlets an efficient and cost-effective choice for scalable, multi-service applications.

Pre-Installed Kubernetes Components

Cloudlets makes deploying Kubernetes simple with a one-click cluster installation that includes a comprehensive set of essential components:

  • CNI plugin using Weave for overlay network support
  • Traefik Ingress Controller to manage HTTP and HTTPS routing
  • HELM package manager for easy deployment of pre-configured applications
  • CoreDNS for internal DNS and service discovery
  • Dynamic volume provisioner for automatic persistent storage
  • Metrics Server to collect resource usage statistics
  • Built-in SSL to secure ingress traffic
  • Kubernetes Web UI Dashboard for cluster management and visibility

This setup provides a ready-to-use Kubernetes environment, saving time and simplifying the deployment of containerised applications.

Pricing

Cloudlets pricing is designed to be kept simple for people to work with. We have 2 pricing solutions available for Cloudlets users. The first is through a dynamic pricing model where you only pay for what you use. The second method is based on fixed cost pricing which makes it predictable for budgeting.

Dynamic Pricing

Cloudlets dynamic pricing model is designed to give you better value by charging based on actual resource usage, not just allocation. If your environment uses 100% of its allocated CPU and RAM all the time, pricing is comparable to hyperscalers in the marketplace. However, if your applications use fewer resources most of the time, as is often the case, you’ll pay significantly less with Cloudlets.

This model gives you the flexibility to scale up when needed while keeping costs down when demand is lower. It’s an ideal solution for businesses looking to reduce hosting expenses without compromising on performance or reliability.

Cloudlets also includes features such as automatic resource scaling, high availability clustering, and built-in load balancing. Provisioning is streamlined, requiring less technical overhead, and support is available locally within Australia.

Fixed Pricing

While Cloudlets typically operates on a dynamic pricing structure, we also offer a premium fixed-price hosting plan tailored specifically for websites and web applications.

This option is ideal for businesses that prefer the certainty of a consistent monthly cost, while still benefiting from the performance and reliability Cloudlets is known for.

Learn more about Fixed Pricing

You also have the flexibility to be able to change between the 2 pricing options. If you have a special event coming up where you believe your existing configuration may not be able to handle the influx of traffic and usage, you can enable dynamic pricing. Once that event has past and everything has returned to normal, you can simply convert it back to fixed pricing.

Kubernetes Free Trial – 14 Days

Experience a production-ready Kubernetes environment with a full 14-day free trial. Deploy and manage containerised applications on Australian-hosted infrastructure, without long-term contracts or the operational complexity of hyperscaler platforms.

Our Kubernetes platform gives you the flexibility to build, scale, and orchestrate workloads with confidence. Spin up clusters quickly, scale resources as demand changes, and maintain full control over networking, storage, and workloads — all with predictable pricing and local support.

Whether you’re testing a new application, validating an existing deployment, or evaluating a simpler alternative to managed hyperscaler Kubernetes, this free trial lets you experience how Kubernetes should be: powerful, transparent, and easy to operate.

Ask A Question – Get Advice

Getting Started! We are ready to meet your needs.

Kubernetes is a powerful platform for running modern applications, but it’s not always clear when it’s the right solution or how it should be implemented. Many businesses know they need better scalability, resilience, and deployment flexibility, but want confidence that Kubernetes will actually deliver real-world benefits for their application.

At VPSBlocks, we help organisations move to Kubernetes in a way that makes sense for their goals. For non-technical teams, that means a reliable, scalable platform that just works. For developers and technical teams, it means properly designed clusters, efficient resource usage, secure networking, and environments that support modern development and deployment workflows.

Whether you’re considering Kubernetes for the first time, migrating an existing application, or looking to improve performance, availability, or deployment processes, our team can help you understand your options and choose the right approach.

Fill out the form and speak with a Kubernetes specialist who can provide clear advice, explain the technical details in plain language, and help you decide if Kubernetes is the right fit for your business.
