Windows 2008 R2 RDP internal error

Written by: on 18 May 2020 02:23 PM 18 May 2020 02:23 PM

Symptoms:

One cannot RDP into the VPS unless another person logs off.

Previously it was possible to login via RDP even if there were two people currently logged in, RDP used to ask if you would like to disconnect or force disconnect.

One can still login via direct console with no issues  but not via RDP without having another person logged off.

Fix:

To increase the maximum number of simultaneous connections by using the Local Group Policy Editor:

  1. Log on to the RDP server by using a user account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
  2. Click Start, type gpedit.msc in the Search box, and then press ENTER.
  3. Navigate to the following path: \Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Connections.
  4. Double-click Limit number of connections.
  5. In the RD Maximum Connections allowed box type a number that is greater than or equal to the maximum number of simultaneous connections for the RD Session Host server (or 999999 for unlimited), and then click OK.
