How to Use Windows Remote Desktop Connection

Written by: on 03 October 2013 03:21 PM 03 October 2013 03:21 PM

Read the full knowledgebase articles and know how to connect RDP when your local computer is a member of a domain.

When you connect via RDP and your local computer is a member of a domain, it will automatically pass that domain as part of the administrator username. As the VPS will not be part of the same domain as your local computer it will fail.

To bypass this, you need to adjust the setting in the Remote Desktop client:

  • Open the Remote Desktop Client (mstsc.exe)
  • Click on 'Show Options'
  • Set the username so it is simply: administrator (not xxxx\administrator)
  • Click Connect

Please note that when prompted you may have to type the password rather than cut and paste it.
