Uploading / Downloading Files Through Remote Desktop

Transferring files to and from the Remote Desktop session is quite easy. Learn it on VPSBlocks to do it yourself.

To upload or download files through remote desktop you need to share a local drive.

To do this start the remote desktop program:

  • Click on the 'Start' menu or 'Windows' icon
  • In the search/cmd box enter: mstsc.exe

When the window comes up fill out the VPS address, then click on 'Options' (don't click Connect just yet)

Click on the 'Local Resources' tab

Click on the 'More' button under 'Local devices and resources'

There you can select which local drives you want to share with your remote desktop session.

Once you've done that, click 'Connect' to connect to your VPS.

Once you've logged into your VPS, on the VPS open 'My Computer' or 'File Explorer'. Under 'Computer' you'll see your local hard drives and you'll now also see a networked hard drive which leads to your local computer's drive. You can simply copy and paste or drag/drop files across between your local computer and the VPS.
