Remote Desktop Clipboard Not Working
Posted by Will Kruss on 06 October 2020 04:03 PM

If the remote desktop copy and paste / clipboard not working then follow the steps in this article and fix the issue.

When you remote desktop into a Windows server the clipboard by default should be shared between your local computer and your remote session.

If it's not working, the first thing to do is ensure it is turned on, to do this open a new remote desktop connection window, before connecting click on 'Show Options' , click on the 'Local Resources' tab and ensure 'Clipboard' is checked. Then connect and hopefully you will have a working clipboard.

If this doesn't work, the likelihood is that the rdpclip process has hung on the VPS. To fix this, connect via your RDP session to the VPS, go to the task manager (right click on the taskbar and select 'Task Manager'), then select the 'Processes' tab. Find the process called 'rdpclip.exe'. Select it and choose 'End Process'. Once it disappears, go to 'File' and 'New Task', and enter: rdpclip

This will create a new rdpclip process which will immediately fix the clipboard issue.
